FAQs

Do you provide digital printing?

We do not. Our specialty is letterpress design and printing. Sometimes a project we work on includes digital printing combined with letterpress printing. In those cases we outsource the digital printing.

What kind of presses do you have?

We own and operate three different presses.

  1. We have a Vandercook SP-15 cylinder proofing press from the 1960s. This press is hand operated but uses a small motor for inking the rollers.

  2. A Chandler & Price Pilot press. This is a smaller tabletop platen press from around the 1920s. This press is operated with a pull down handle and was likely used for teaching graphic arts classes to middle or high school age students.

  3. Our oldest press is a floor model Chandler & Price 11 x 7 from around 1900. This press operates with a foot treadle and a large fly wheel. We affectionately call her Nessie.

What kind of ink do you print with?

Primarily rubber-based printing inks. These are slow-drying inks that are easy to work with because they remain open for long periods of time on press. They offer beautiful, vibrant color but set fairly rapidly on paper. Some of the inks in our collection are soy-based, and a few are oil-based (metallic inks).
