All Caps is an original, letterpress and linocut art print made in special collaboration between New Yorker cartoonist, Drew Dernavich, and Christy and Paul Nesja of Nesja Press. The limited edition includes 100 signed and numbered prints. Sold unframed.
Drew Dernavich is widely known for his distinctive wood-cut style drawings created on scratch board. His cartoons appear regularly in The New Yorker, and he’s won the National Cartoonists Society’s Reuben Award as the country’s best gag cartoonist. The cartoon image and caption for All Caps were conceived by Drew. Paul & Christy collaborated with Drew to agree on the large word choices, as well as overall layout and color palette. Drew prepared his drawing for relief printing by hand-carving a linoleum block.
All letterpress production and typesetting was completed by Christy. The words overlapping the image were printed with two different metal type lockups. These two lockups, as well as Drew’s linocut, were printed in three separate print runs on a hand-cranked Vandercook SP15 proofing press. A photopolymer plate was used to print the smaller words spoken by the therapist. The plate was mounted to a type high base and printed on a treadle-operated Chandler & Price platen press. When a sufficient number of high-quality prints had been produced, all images and type lockups were disassembled.
Letterpress printed on 100% cotton paper using rubber-based inks, a hand-carved linoleum block, metal type and a photopolymer plate. Trim size 12 x 9 inches. Packaged in a resealable cellophane sleeve with acid free backing board. A signed and numbered Certificate of Authenticity will accompany each print. Created in August 2024. Sold unframed. Framed example shown in a 14 x 11 inch frame with a custom cut mat.
